This is Saint Expeditus. He's called upon in emergencies, when a quick solution is necessary, when in need of money, and also to assist in overcoming procrastination. There's a lot of uncertainty about this saint, his origins, and if he existed at all. He's one of my very favourite saints and has done many favours for me so I believe in him wholeheartedly Smiley

This piece was created in one half of a wooden checkerboard box. (The back still has the black and white squares) The old watch at the top of the symbolizes St. Expeditus' choice to act now. In most images of Saint Expeditus this is usually depicted as a cross with the word "hodie" ("today") on it. At his feet there is a feather and the word "Cras", which sounds very much like the call of a crow but is Latin for "Tomorrow".

One story says that Expeditus was a soldier who was tempted to wait until "Tomorrow, Tomorrow" by a crow, but instead immediately hurried to become a convert that very day.

That is beautiful -- it feels ghostly, almost.

I think the post office should adopt him as their patron saint and get swap packages to their intended destinations faster! Grin

A saint for overcoming procrastination is just what I need right now, with four papers and a research proposal to write... That is absolutely gorgeous, and I love the story.

I think Saint Expedius would be a very fitting saint for my craft room wall. Would I be terribly selfish to suggest you should start selling prints of this? Smiley I mean it only as the best of compliments, of course.
