I completed my first rag quilt yesterday!  It was a fun project - easy to pick up & put down, which is good because I have a toddler I'm after all the time.  This quilt was for him.  It is REALLY hard to find boy friendly pre cuts, but I used 3 King of the Ranch charm packs, a Texas panel (that had about 25 charm sized squares on it), and a couple cute Western prints I found to round it off to 168 squares.  I used the Moda Bake Shop "Charming Rag Quilt" tutorial.  Here is how it turned out:

Here is a close up of some of the fabrics:

Here is the quilt in process:

I really liked how it turned out.  I used dark brown flannel on the back, with blue flannel as the "filling" to give the ragged edge some contrast.  I used off white thread on the top because I thought it looked more western-y.  The only thing that annoyed me is that somehow, the bottom was not quite even even though I squared all the squares off before sewing together.  Must be uneven seam allowances.

Anyway, we do a lot of camping & outdoor stuff & it isn't one of those delicate quilts I would mind getting worn & used.  In fact, I'm planning another one in case I need to wash this one.

Fabulous!  I would love to do such a quilt but I'm sure mine would come out far more uneven than you said yours did! Cheesy  I love it!

Your quilt turned out fantastically!. This is very encouraging to me, since this was your first rag quilt. I have never done any quilting whatsoever in my lifetime. However, I decided a few weeks ago that I am going to give a rag quilt a try. I'm doing mine a little differently only because it will be very simple since I don't know how to quilt or am I very experienced with machine sewing, period. I'm doing mine in strips instead of squares.
I'm making a small wheelchair sized one for my 84 year old mother. I'll be making it this weekend as I'm guessing that the fabric I ordered should be here by Friday.
Wish me luck! I just hope mine turns out half as nice as yours did.
