Since summer started I have found myself itching to make a dress. Something cool and comfortable but dressy enough I could wear to work.  So when I saw this tutorial by violentjayne I had to give it a try.
Here it is:

C & C welcome.

That turned out gorgeous! It is very flattering and the layout of the print of the fabric is perfect. I would like to give that tutorial a try one of these days.

Thanks guys!
I kept rearranging the pattern to try to find the optimal layout for the print. I am glad you approve.

Wow!  You really were paying attention to layout, cause it doesn't look like there's any seam down the front!  Good work.

You are all so sweet, and I highly recommend the tutorial. It was so straightforward.

Wow!  You really were paying attention to layout, cause it doesn't look like there's any seam down the front!  Good work.

Ha ha, actually I should confess that there is no seam down the front. The tutorial requires making a pattern for one-fourth of the dress and then cutting out and sewing together four pieces. I set out to follow these directions, but once I had made the pattern it occurred to me that if I folded my fabric in half under the pattern then I could just cut out and sew two pieces instead of four. Since this seemed like half as much work that is what I did Grin.  Then I just cut a slit in the center of each piece to make the neckline.

I really just did it this way because I am lazy, but I think for this particular fabric it was a good approach.

Very smart!  Any shortcuts would make it much faster to make!  Thanks for the tip...I will see if I can find wider fabric to eliminate the seams as well...I am going to see if I can stop myself from wanting to finish off the neckline...Cheesy
