So, for a project about two months ago, I stiffened over a yard of embroidery floss with glue. As I cleaned out my sewing box yesterday, I was about to chuck it. I mean, why on earth would anyone want stiff floss in a certain color?  I have a tough time using a trash basket, so took a bit of material that was also destined for the landfill and tied it onto the end of the floss.
Out into the hallway we went, my 15-year-old DandiGirl and I.
Wow, this toy is amazing! Because of the stiff floss, it catches ever so slightly on the carpet and does this jumping thing as it comes along. To Dandi, it is very much like a real creature in the way it moves. Here is a video of a cat who generally sleeps much of the day but is very much active with her new toy!!

That's cool that you found a fun use for something that you were otherwise going to toss out.  I've tried stiffening embroidery floss with glue in the past too, with the intent to do styled hair with it on a figure's head (like it's blowing in the wind or something), but I didn't get very good results.

Our 14-year-old cat mostly just sleeps (and eats) these days too.  He got a brand new bag of cat toys for Christmas, and he could care less.  I can only get him to play for a minute or two, at best, and half-heartedly at that.  Sometimes he runs around like a lunatic playing his own games though, so he still has the energy when he wants to use it.
