I've seen recipes floating around for years for Black Bean Brownies. I wanted to like these so much but they just came out ridiculously undercooked (and I cooked past the recommended time!). I used the recipe from the Happy Herbivore here: http://happyherbivore.com/recipe/vegan-blackbean-brownies/

If anyone has tried them or similar before with success please share your tips! I'm planning to try another recipe soon.

I've tried to make black bean brownies (similar but different recipe) and even used real chocolate chips....wasn't great.
The consistency of the black beans baked just wasn't right. Results tasted sticky and well, bean-y. Lol.
They definitely weren't soft and fluffy like the dairy based.
I hope you find another recipe that works!

Well I hate to hear you didn't have success either but I'm glad I'm not alone! The next recipe I want to try uses 3 eggs and no bananas so I'm more confident that will turn out ... will update when I try!

This is the recipe that I use!! this has taken me so many trials and errors... I've made it so much I can make it without the recipe now. lol... yeah, I'm one of "those" people. I loosely based it on a link I'll put at the bottom...

Black Bean Brownies!!

1 (15.5 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
1/4 cup flaxseed meal + 2 teaspoons melted coconut oil.
3 tablespoons applesauce
1/4 cup + 3 TBLS cocoa powder
 pinch salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
dash of almond extract
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup honey (this isn't TECHNICALLY vegan, I think agave might work fine. or brown sugar)
3 teaspoons instant coffee
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8x8 square baking dish.
Combine the all ingredients EXCEPT chocolate chips; blend until smooth; pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top of the mixture.
Bake in the preheated oven until the top is dry and the edges start to pull away from the sides of the pan, about 30-45 minutes.

The coffee is the reason that this doesn't taste so weird. As LoveNtheOcean said, they aren't going to be super light and fluffy like the ones with dairy, but I've always loved the fudgy dense ones.

I'm allergic to dairy. Eggs, milk, the whole nine yards, so I had to revamp the original recipe too. Smiley

I'm so glad to see this posted, because I've been thinking about making these. I've tried two other Happy Herbivore recipes and have not been impressed   Undecided

Yeah, I tried to make these and they weren't very tasty.  Sad  However, I have had luck with bean truffle balls...posted here: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=398251.msg4699589#msg4699589

Hmm...I have a whack of dried kidney beans...I should make this again.
