Ideas? I have a long vintage chain that is plated with fake silver & the plating is wearing off in the back.  I wouldn't mind the copper? brass? whatever showing through but it irritates my skin.

I'd like to find some way to blacken it without further skin irritation & without color rubbing off onto me.  Any ideas would be welcome.

The British eBay seller claimed it to be sterling, but since it sticks to a magnet & is now showing a base metal where the silver finish wore off...I kinda think he was LYING. But still a pretty embossed design on the links.

Thanks!

If it's just a couple spots, a touch of clear nail polish would help a lot. If it's pretty extensive wear, I would research using a spray sealant, but I think it would have to be a really light coat so that you don't gum up the links.

Ah, eBay...

I would suggest just sending the chain out to get replated, there are plenty of places that will do so for you. If you need help finding a place that will replate it for you, let me know and I'll see who I can find.
Considering that it's magnetic, then I can promise you it is only plated, not sterling.
