Yesterday I took a class on pet portrait painting. This isn't really my wheelhouse, but I had so much fun! With great advice from the teacher, I was able to paint Peach, the farm cat. We began by tracing some basic lines on the canvas using a projector, and blocking the general colors.

Here you can see my reference photo and what my pallet looked like at the end. I did a heck of a lot of blending to get the highlights on her fur.

Finished piece! Peach lives at the farm from April to November, and then goes home with another employee for the winter. This way I'll have a bit of her with me when I can't see her every week.

Our whole class with their paintings - can you spot blupaisan? Cheesy

I remain in awe of this piece. When i saw it in person I was incredibly impressed with the detail, the realism of the eyes, and the way you produced such an accurate feel of solidity with the shadowing. Now that I am seeing it on a computer screen, my mind is blown that much more.
How on earth did you take an already pretty photo and improve upon it tenfold? The canvas is incredibly realistic as I see it here in your post.

good grief, I can actually 'feel' Peach sitting there in the sun.

Well done!!

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

Amazing job on the feline (the eyes are particularly lifelike) and I really dig the purple/pink plants in the background too.  I've never seen a calico cat with a marking pattern on the head/face like that either.
