A yo-yo tree grows on my door (pic heavy!)

Well actually it hangs on a hook but that's semantics. I hope this is the right forum to post this project in. Please, someone tell me if I ought to have put it elsewhere.

Anyway, here is a wall-hanging I've been working on for several months of a tree made of yo-yos, buttons, and beads.

Over 60 yo-yos of different sizes make up the canopy of the tree. I used the extra small, small, large, extra large, and jumbo round yo-yo makers by Clover. For that extra touch of summer sunshine I stitched on beads and buttons amongst the yo-yos.


I stitched the brown cotton tree trunk down to the pre-quilted foundation using embroidery. I really like the texture.

Tonight I finished the final touch of whimsy by adding butterfly beads to the flower garden growing at the base of the tree. If you look carefully you can also see my signature frog bead which I add to my wall hangings.

This is such a cool use of yo-yo's and buttons.  I mostly just use yo-yo's to decorate hair elastics.

Thank you for your kind words about my blog, Always! I have a lot of fun with it. I find yo-yos addicting as well, they breed like tribbles. I've been using a lot of scraps from different projects to make them but I also buy "yo-yo friendly" fat quarters that look nifty more often than I should. With my yo-yo tree I made an effort to use scraps from a wedding quilt I am making for a friend of mine (it is in my list of 12!) that basically uses up all of my green fabrics and then my sis-in-law gave me more green fabric scraps too. So when I look at the tree I also think of my my friend and my little sis. It's nice.

I'm glad my yo-yo experiments have inspired you. That makes me happy. Someday I hope to sell yo-yo creations online but until then I'm glad to just experiment and inspire. I hope you'll share pics of whatever you come up with, Always.
