I know that having the same dye lot can be important.......but I often just grab random skeins  that wind up being of different dye lots, and I find that in things like afghans or scarves it adds character. Is it just me, or does anyone else do this?  I'm currently knitting an entrelac afghan for my good friend out of Lion Brand Homespun in Tudor, and I'm glad I picked different lots, because there are more colors, and each square is unique.

That can work for some projects. I picked up 4 skeins of a yarn on closeout, 2 each in 2 different dye lots and while they looked close enough in the skein at the store when I knit the sweater there was an obvious difference. So they have to become 2 separate items.

I'm anal about dye lots Smiley. I have a hard time overlooking the color changes, even if they are minimal.

This was a recent dye lot disaster I had...

I know that to avoid the harsh contrast, you can use 2 skeins and alternate each row to blend the colors better. That's kind of a pain though.

Yeah, I can see where it'd be important in certain pieces. Smiley

I love mixing dye lots because I'm another sucker for cheap yarn lol. I can get more expensive yarns than i'd be able to afford outside of the sales... but in some things, you need to be certain.
