This year I celebrated the arrival of 2012 by going to a burlesque vintage ball! Not having a vast collection of corsets or suspenders, I wasn't sure what to wear. I decided to play it safe with a little black dress but wanted to accessorise it - burlesque style. This is what I came up with...

To make you own you will need a plain black mini top hat (mine was from H&M), some ribbon and feathers, some glittery numbers or other decoration, some netting and a glue gun.

I couldn't find the right size numbers anywhere so I got my Dad to cut them out of Balsa wood with a craft knife then used a nail file to round off the edges (thanks dad!). Then I covered them in mod plodge and sprinkled them with glitter.

I used the glue gun to stick on some feathers and then covered the "stem" of the feathers with a ribbon wrapped around the top hat. I used a turquoise ribbon that had a bow tied in it, then wrapped a thinner gold ribbon around the turquoise one so it would match my sparkly gold numbers.

Then I glued some netting to the inside of the top hat rim, so that it would cover one side of my face, and stuck my numbers onto the ribbon for the finishing touch:

Now, what to do with the left over ribbon and feathers... well I had a plain black bag so I decided to style that up bit too.

Hope you like them!

They both look very glamorous.

Look twice, buy once. Nooooo
Look twice, decide I can make one instead.
