Using remnants I got from Wal-Mart (sadly my closest fabric store) I made myself one of the Wendi Gratz mini totes from here: http://wendigratz.blogspot.com/2011/04/mini-tote-free-sewing-pattern-pdf.html
I made it, in an hour or so of actual work, needing something smaller than my usual bag to take with me to doctors appointments. I made it a tiny bit larger using 10" by 10" squares for it, so I can put my knitting in there as well as wallet, phone, and keys.  Grin
The front shooting star embroidery to match the lining.

The handles. Did some embroidery on them to make them go with the rest.

The lining. Red with white shooting stars fabric. You can also see the decorative embroidery I did on the handles.

I really recommend this pattern as a beginners intro to lined bags. Smiley

I love the detail in the handles.

Look twice, buy once. Nooooo
Look twice, decide I can make one instead.
