Hey guys! I need a little help with a gift idea.  A friend of mine will be leaving in December to work with the Peace Corps in Thailand.  So far, she's asked for hand sanitizer and a list of other expensive items from Amazon.  Being the mother of a small child, money is tight and I can't really afford the expensive things from Amazon.  SOOOO I need some help brainstorming alternate gift ideas. Thanks!

Maybe a sleep sheet/liner? http://www.guideforeurope.com/sleepsheet.html
Or a  little travel sewing kit?

A cooling neck scarf: sew a tube of fabric and put in silica gel (called moisture plus in the gardening section). When you soak it in water the gel expands and stays cool as the water evaporates. When you wear it around your neck you stay cooler longer. works better in dry climates. not sure what the average humidity is where she is going.

A sun hat, something that can protect her face and be smooshed into a bag.

An altoid tin filled with random stuff you need every day. could go either toward a survival kit mentality with practical useful things or a keep my sanity type of thing, maybe with pictures of her family and friends, her favorite places...kind of tiny portable scrapbook.

Depending on where she is going...I couldn't have lived without a wet bag when I was in Thailand because during the monsoon season the rain is no joke! You could maybe make a cute bag with some oilcloth.

Also if outside Bangkok, maybe a cute hand-made fabric pair of flip flops?

I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.
