It's a long story.

I kinda had a steampunk-ish/gothic lolita-y vision for this skirt:

The skirt is 2 A-line layers with the top black layer flaring slightly more than the grey one. Both are blind-hemmed and gathered together (they were cut 2 times more than the hip measurement) then sewn to an elastic waistband cut just bigger than the hips. It's quite poofy.

The ribbon ties and unties to adjust the ruching. After I took these pictures I found a button at an antique store to put at the top of the ribbon for added stability and interest. It's grey and black marbled.

I love costumes and things and had a great time dreaming up this one.

Thanks for taking a look!

ETA: BTW, I made spats/leg warmers to go with this. Here's a link to a tutorial I wrote up about them in case anyone is interested: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=392832.0

I love this! I could totally see this becoming a huge hit at my college, it's unique and could go with just about anything. I want one!

Adorable! Definitely not "just a costume", and could certainly be worn many ways. It has a very flattering shape, too. Great work!
