I've had my ferret for almost 2 years now (holy crap, has it really been that long?!), and he's been in the same small little cage since I got him. I'm always on the lookout for bigger cages, but they never seem to be in my budget. But alas! One day at a yard sale someone was selling their sugar glider cage for only $10! I snatched that bad boy up and managed to fit it in my itty bitty car. I got it home and immediately used some planet fabric from the stash to make some covers for the levels since they were wire and I didn't want his little tosies to get stuck. From there I used wire cutters to cut a hole in the top of his old cage, filed down the ends (after scratching my arm pretty badly), and attached the new to the old. And here it is! My super modified but awesomely huge ferret mansion. Now he just needs a buddy to live with him. If only I had the money to get another baby... Onto pictures!
His old cage:

The new: (there is a ramp the that first small level, he just knocked it off)

And him stuffing his face:

Edit: I'd like to add that I've since gotten a new addition my animal family. She's from the shelter and I don't know what to name her yet. But isn't she cute?! (my old baby Hooch is in the back, eating. again.)
It was so hard to get a decent picture. Now that she is here neither one of them ever stop moving. I'll have to wait until they are asleep to get good pictures.

Awesome! If I were a ferret I'd totally want to live there. And as for ferret buddies, there are often abandoned ferrets at the humane society, I've found.

Whatever happened to the ongoing hoopla swaps?

I like to think he's happy. He mostly just stays in his old cage. The only reason he was up there is because I put him up there. I spent so long sewing all those pieces and they are padded for comfort, but he still chooses to sleep all the way on the bottom on the hard plastic. Not even on the towel down there, he'll push it out of the way and sleep on the plastic. He's silly.

The wee things usually are weird like that. >.< lol I have a pair of guinea pigs & I made them this adorable bag to sleep in, padded with sherpa fleece & everything, still prefer just on the floor of their cage (albeit I use fleece bedding) & never use it.

Now this post has me all excited, once we move into our new house this weekend I need to rebuild & eventually want to extend their cage. lol

The ferret cage looks great.  What a good idea to join to cages together.

I also have two guinea pigs - yeah for small furries!  Cheesy

I have lots of train tickets (I get the train most days), if anyone wants some for papercrafting just send me a PM Smiley

Adorable idea.  What a mansion!  I love the planet fabric.
