I'm on a mission to decorate and furnish my new home on as little as possible (why spend big bucks when you can craft it yourself for much less?) and these photo ledges definitely fit the bill!

For those of you who have not heard of Ana White, she is a blogger with fabulous furniture (and accents) plans.  Probably the easiest of her projects is the $10 Ledge.  Essentially, it's just three boards screwed/nailed together and then finished.  Much cheaper than the ones you can buy from housewares or big box stores!

I modified mine to be only 48" long (instead of the full 8') and used a 2x1 instead of a 4x1 for the bottom board.  All together, my wood was about $4.50, and I used a can and a half of spraypaint for the finish.  It's directly screwed into studs in the wall, so these things are very solid.  Now I just need to figure out exactly what photos I want to display!

I made these too! Love my ledges! I think my entire project for the wood, frames and photo printing cost me less than $20 for 2 shelves! A chunk of that was a can of stain I spent too much on, but I have soooo much left for other projects it's totally worth it.

Hooray for Ana! I recommend everyone take a gander at her site, it's pretty fantastic.

I've also successfully made the spa bench for about $20 as well.

Nice! What a great (and affordable idea). We've been brainstorming ways to display some of our wedding shots and this just might be a winner!

I love this idea!  I've been trying to decide how to display pictures and books in my son's room for ages, and these would be perfect!
