I have 4 yards of this fabric (it's 45 inches wide), and I could use some suggestions of what to make with it. The embroidery is directional, but it goes selvage to selvage. I can't for the life of me figure out why someone would make fabric like that, since most garments you'd cut out of it would have the flowers and vines going perpendicular to nature.

I think want to make a dress out of this. It's a bottomweight mystery fabric I got from a friend of friend who was cleaning out her sewing area. Any dress suggestions? (Either sewing patterns or just pictures online are awesome.) I like circle skirts, but I don't think that'll work out for this one. Do you think the embroidery on a bodice is going to be odd? Should it have a life as a skirt?

I'm not familiar with working with fabric that has stripes. If I were to try to make it into a gored skirt, would the embroidery look funky? Is there any reason I shouldn't rotate the pattern pieces 90 degrees and cut them that way, so that the vines go up/down?

I would do a simple bodice with a gathered skirt. I'm tempted to recommend using alllllll the fabric for the skirt and using a different fabric for the bodice, kind of like this.

This is the pattern I took the picture from.
