A friend of mine is an art teacher and before she tossed the dye and wax she asked if I wanted to try tie dye and batik over spring break. (um.. heck yes!) So here is my first attempts. The batik didn't really turn out how I thought it would but I'm pretty happy how everything turned out.  These will be gifts for my niece and nephews

Tie Dye   You can barely see the stars on the yellow shirt but up close you make them out.

What do you think?  Tie dye might be my new drug...

Wow, your first dyeing attempt and you went straight for the batik! The skull turned out really awesome! And you can see the hearts and the star in the other two t-shirt. I love the colors on the hearts one ^_^ Though, I can't tell where the stars are on the yellow one (I think the picture isn't doing it justice?) I love how the yellow is brighter and lighter all over the shirt. The pleated tie-dye is my favorite of the batch and will look so darling on your niece!
As for any helpful remarks, if you're looking for any, don't be afraid to add more dye to the fabric as it will help to bring out the shape of the designs a bit more (I'm talking from my experience from tie-dyeing as I have no experience in batik). Although, you do have a start in creating your own look by going with the minimal dye usage ^_^
I look forward to see what more you do with your future dyeing attempts!

I really dig the tie dye ones.  The purple batik attemp is a really pretty color, and I can kind of make out the stars.  Hope you keep it up! These are great first tries.
