Mr Potts is a ceramic owl I created last month in my pottery class.  I've been taking lessons now for nearly 2 years but only once a week during the summer months---wish it were every day.  I love creating with clay & find it the most satisfying medium I've ever worked with.

I began by forming the body around a wad of newspaper using 2 slabs of clay.  When it was leather hard, I carved in the details and added the eyes, beak, wings, feet & tree branch made from separate pieces of clay.  After the first firing, I painted him with various colored glazes.  I refired him, coated him entirely with a bronze glaze & fired him a third time.  I'm very happy with the finished piece which stands about 9" tall.

AWWWW.....HE'S SO CUTE AND SHINY!!!!! If he had cheeks, I would pinch them.

As you can see, I LOVE owls. Cheesy He has a very clever name, too. This totally inspires me to make a beaded owl!!!! I'd try pottery, but as you can tell from my challenge entry, I'm currently hooked on beads. Plus, this little guy is definitely unique. Smiley

I keep my eye open for owls - a friend of mine is crazy for them.
This is beautiful!
Well done!

Thank you for the description of how you made him - that is much more complicated than I would want to try. Or be able to do.
You have quite an attention for details.

(I just hit "This Rocks" - and I think I did it correctly.)

I love owls too.  Your owl is very detailed!  I especially like his tummy? area.
