For the August bday swap one of my partners liked pandas and I found this awesome paper pieced pattern for a cute panda! Only problem--I've only paper pieced once or twice before, and it's been a while! I quickly took a mini refresher course and practiced on a very simple square in square design. It took a couple hours just because there were so many fiddly pieces, but I think it turned out pretty well! The square is six inches, so I turned it into a mug rug for my partner and finished it with some Asian inspired fabrics.

Just the panda!

Thanks guys! I'm definitely going to work on some more paper pieced projects, it's pretty fun! And even if the overall block is complex, you just work little sections at a time, so just doing one step and not worrying about how hard it was overall keeps ya going! Grin

That is awesome!  Love the fabrics you put with it.

I might have to make one for my daughter as she loves pandas. Smiley

Nice job, Mare Mare!!  I have tried paper piecing, and I always like the end result.  Two of my quilting buddies are totally hooked on paper piecing.  I like your subject matter here - cute, cute panda!   Cheesy
