This is one of the hoops I made for the Hoopla rnd 5 swap. The theme for that round was monochromatic. My partner (the lovely and talanted sloth003 mentioned that she would love a children's book illustration inspired hoop. After some minor probing it was discovered that she loved the idea of Yertle the Turtle by Doctor Suess. I immediately went to the library and checked out the book and got to work. Whats great about the book is that it was already mostly monochromatic so the inspiration was very easy. I stitched on a grey fabric with shades of blue. I think my favorite part was trying to give the turtles a textured fill look. I made up a bunch of stitches for them. I did also use the long short stitch, french knots, and satin stitch for some of the turtles.

The hoop:

If you want to see what the illustrated version looked like there is an image on this pbs site: http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/politicaldrseuss/

I think this piece was definitively one of my favorites because I got to play with my stitches more then normal. It was pretty fun to make each turtle look a little unique. I hope you all enjoy looking at it. (And I hope Sloth enjoys it on her wall!!)

I definitely just squealed when I saw this, I love Dr. Seuss!  Your mix & match stitching is fab, I'm such a fan of multiple stitches in one piece.
