I love the Harry Potter books, but, I was kinda sad that there won't be any more mooks or movies made. The last movie was a triumphant ending, but oh, so dark. I like to think about happier times in the Harry Potter series and so I've been making dolls in that style. This version of Hermione is a first year at Hogwarts. She has her well read version of Hogwarts a History in the crook of her right arm, her wand in her left hand and Crookshanks to accompany her.

I was curious to see if I could get the frizzy curly effect in her hair, and when I found the Angel Hair yarn, I thought that I had a start. I love all of the multi-colored threads in it, that remind me of highlights in hair. I wrapped it around dowels and wet it and put it in the oven at 250 degrees F. When I pulled it off, it wasn't as curly as the regular arylic yarn, but it was perfect for Hermione's frizzy hair.

Her face is drawn on with a number 2 pencil and then shaded with Prismacolor pencils, which have a softer wax than other pencils do, and then details were painted in with acrylic paints.

Her book, wand and Crookshanks have wire armatures overlaid with aluminum foil and then Super Sculpey. Then they were painted with multiple layers of acrylic paint.

Her shoes are made of a soft faux leather, and her sweater and tights are made of men's  dress socks.

The fingernail effect is done with 3 layers of glossy Mod Podge and then the white part is painted on with acrylic paint.

Hermione is 13 inches (30 cm) tall and made from an original pattern.

I second that! Just look at her hair, and her outfit. And then all the details on a not too big doll... she's beyond words.

Thank you all so much for your kind words. The hardest part was writing the title on the book. It's so tiny!
