I'm back!  I wasn't expecting my laptop to return from repairs until January, but it actually arrived on Christmas Eve   Cheesy

My husband decided to be a voice of reason, and forbade any crafting from December 20th until the house was cleaned, dinner planned/prepaired, decorations up, and everything in order for a house full of guests.  All though I didn't like it, I'm glad I listened.  We have just had the best Christmas I can remember as an adult.  In-laws decided not to show, so it was just my family, but we had tons of good food and drink, and everybody was happy  Smiley  I hope everyone else is enjoying there holidays too!

So here is the final list of successes and failures.
Crafted gifts
Bought full price
Kids: Box of Astrid Lindgren DVDs
Husband: Gift card for "stuff that goes boom" i.e. hunting gear, computer games, fireworks etc waxing iron for skis
Mother: Orange marmalade, cheese, calendar with pictures of kids antique teapot
Father: waxing iron for skis, lemon curd, burnt almonds, calendar with pictures of kids
Brother: Beer cook book and beer
Aunt: A selection of oils and vinegars
Cousin: Travel guide and selection of beers
Sister-in-law: Cloth shopping bag with pictures of her, brother and their kid
Niece: Cloth shoppingbag with picture of herself and Minni Mouse, Season ticket to local play centre
Mother-in-law: calendar with pictures of kids, squirrel feeders
Father-in-law: Calendar with pictures of kids
Best friend: Shower scrub, cloth shopping bag with pictures from wedding, toiletry bags
Best friend's daughter: cloth bag with picture of herself and Hello Kitty, Clothes for her teddy
Best friend's son: underclothes, Hexabug

Colour coding the list wasn't a bad idea.  Looking at it now I don't feel as such a big failure as I did before I wrote it.

Oh, and for those of you wondering about Norways butter shortage: http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/404098/december-12-2011/norway-s-butter-shortage?redirect=true.  Except for the bit about the reindeer, very word is true  Cheesy

I have been very quiet as before December I didn't know what I was making and in December I was busy making stuff. But I consider my challenge completed as I made all my gifts and they all went down really well.  Cheesy

What I've learned in the past couple of months:

  • Crafting takes time - start early!
It's always harder than it looks.
When learning a new skill, make a few "practice" items before making gifts.
Children *do* recognize quality (or lack thereof).
People really do appreciate handmade gifts.

You've been busy! Love the mushroom bag and the shopping bag, neat kindle cover!, the tea cozy is so sweet, love the fabric, and the Christmas crackers are beautiful. Wow! And all the goodies are making me hungry. Grin
Love the Marvel/DC cookies! Hee, I can just see me trying to decorate those neatly and failing to keep the colors separate. I'd hear "Is that...Spiderman? Why is he wearing tie dye?"
