Are these Dolly Dingle paper dolls? I actually have a reproduction book of these and was brainstorming how to use them in a craft. They're too cute!

They look like Dolly Dingles.  My Grandma had some of those (not vintage reprints) that we played with as kids.  YOu did a super job and I am sure they will be a well recieved gift.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane:  I had a beach towel with a similar design when I was a kid.  I remember we were on a boat, and I got poison oak, and a dinosaur ate the towel.  Yeah, it's been a while, I might not be remembering quite right.

I've seen paper doll fabrics in the "Home Sew" catalog, but they don't seem to have any on their website right now.   http://www.homesew.com/
