My mom recently dug up some old hats, and found this one:

And then my friend asked if I could make a cowl with that pattern. It seemed simple enough and I agreed. But after looking at it a little longer I have no idea what that stitch is or how to do it. I thought it was just some bobble/popcorn stitch, but it doesn't look like that at all. I've googled it for awhile, but due to my lack of experience I haven't found it.

Here's some more pictures:

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I'm heading to bed so I can't swatch this, but I think this might do it.

In the round, multiple of 4

Rows 1 and 2: k3, sl1
Row 3: knit
Rows 4-6: repeat 1-3
Rows 7 and 8: k1 (sl1, k3) to last 3 sts, sl 1, k2
Row 9: knit
Rows 10-12: repeat 7-9

It's late, that might be something completely different, but my sleep deprived brain seems to think it might be close. Cheesy

I have slept and am swatching now, but some immediate corrections have been made.

Done swatching, nope, that's not it. I'll come back with a new comment if I figure it out.

I know it's a few years late but that is a brioche bobble! Wish I'd been here earlier Smiley here is a link that shows how it's done http://www.knitaholics.com/2012/11/02/how-to-knit-bobble-brioche-stitch-knitting-stitch/
