Going totally off-topic (the crochet topic at least), when I was about 10, and still totally obsessed with Barbie and old-fashioned movie musicals, my mom made me a birthday cake that was the top half of a Barbie-type doll, and her "skirt" was all cake.  She frosted the entire thing, even the doll, to look like a dress from some musical that I was in love with - maybe The King and I?  I don't remember.  It was so pretty, I didn't want to eat it, which I think is the only time I've ever refused my own birthday cake.

Going back to the crochet topic, I'm on the fence about toilet paper cozies.  Sometimes they're cute, sometimes they're too much.  Just depends.

beyond the barbie doll impaled in the roll with a dress to hide it all..... that was always my favorite to poke fun at.

I used to LOVE those! But only because they were dolls in pretty dresses that I could play with, not because they covered toilet paper.
We actually have this lacy tp cover that our neighbour made us one christmas years and years ago that we've used ever since, and to tell you the truth, I've never actually thought about why we use it...

i suppose you have to look at it this way...what would you prefer your guests see in your bathroom? a toilet roll sitting on the sink or back of the toilet or a cutesy/kitschy sushi roll or doll?

This entire thread made me laugh so much, I've laughed up my morning coffee!  My grandma made those 'impaled Barbie" tp covers too!  As she really got into it, there were Theme Impaled Barbie TP covers--a little green dress and tam-o-sham for St. Pat's, a witch for Halloween, a Mrs. Claus, the list goes on!  Once, she even made a 'curtains' Scarlet of Gone with the Wind--that was our favorite, get it?-wind?!  Thanks for the memories, and the laughs!

It is pretty frightening and impressive what you can do with a bundt pan... I am still waiting for an excuse to make the sea serpeant cake...

Sea Serpent cake?  Could you PM me and tell me where to find that?

I like to keep a spare roll on the tank, and it stays clean and looks cute with a sushi roll cozy over it.

Sure, I could get the people I share the toilet with to replace the roll when it runs out, but that gets to be much more tiring.

My beloved, pain-in-the-behind cat tends to shred any rolls of paper down to 1/2 inch pieces. This includes brand-new rolls of toilet paper, paper towels, wrapping paper... she even tried the packaging tape, but got her claws all sticky. Apparently that didn't suit her. Regardless, I should make myself a little cozy, perhaps with a dispenser slot in back, to save the poor toilet paper from the wrath of JoJo. Thanks for an unexpected solution!

Aww, my kitty is Jojo too. (Jolene)    Thanks for the feedback, my dear friends. I think I have a much better understanding of toilet paper covers now. =P

"Those doll cakes are actually kinda popular now.  Wilton has them in their magazine/catalog all the time.  They even sell half dolls to stick in the top.  And mini cake pans and mini half dolls to make individual ones.  Sorry, they're back."

Nooo way!  That's funny.  It's funny how the old stuff comes back again.

We had a Barbie tp cover that had a blue dress.  We were forbidden by my mom to use that roll of tp she covered.  Grin  I have no idea why?  LOL.
