So the old cat bed had gone incredibly... overaged. And then I ran into some lovely looking fabric and decided it should be completely made-over. With a little tutorial!

This is what it looked like before. Yuck, eh... Also was stainy, had a hole in it, and boy I found a great variety of hair when taking it apart, even though it was washed on occassions. The filling wasn't all that anymore either.

Took the whole thing apart, had some help while doing so! Just tore it really, no scissors needed.

I created three parts instead of two, because I wanted the cat bed to be expandable. We have three cats, one of them is ... HUGE... catzilla-like, and he does not fit. In any basket at all. I swear his mother was an ogre. So I created three parts instead and made fabric cases on them. I left a long hem on the sides that would be sewed but if you are going for this project too, I recommend leaving them even longer than I did, because I struggled like hell on my sewing machine. If you hand-sew them, this size should be fine.

Sewn together, the ribbons are to fasten the bed into a cozy crib when the two smaller cats want to sleep in it.

It is reversible! We love reversible!

Apparently, approved!! (Note: this is not Cat-zilla, if I catch Cat-zilla in the basket at some point I will quickly make a photo to prove he DOES FIT IN NOW).

With some leftover fabric I made this old basket into a cat-basket too. (Cat-zilla does not approve. It's small)

Thanks for looking!!

What a great makeover.  It looks so nice and store bought.  And I really MUST see cat-zilla now.  The curiosity is killing me.

Very nice makeover!  I hope you update with a catzilla picture too.  I have a really big cat, but he likes fitting himself where he just barely fits.  He wouldn't fit the basket though either!
