This is the first project I've done since joining Craftster. My friend stove037 had been trying to talk me into joining for months and I finally did. I decided I wanted to make something for her and her two daughters. They each got a little couple inch square painting and a polymer clay figure to go along with the painting. stove037 got a book that I made about her main from World of Warcraft, Beastor and a moonkin bookmark.

The cover:

The back:

The spine:

The pages:

I made the cover by cutting a piece of leather and just gluing it to the paper that I used for the pages, it came out a lot sturdier than I thought it would. The two little bicycle looking wheels on the front and back I just had laying around, not sure where they came from. I think they made a good clasp though! Basically all I did was take a piece of string and wind it around the one on the back and tie a bead on the other end so that when it winds around the front wheel it holds the book closed. The other little string is a mini bookmark.

There are 22 pages in the book (11 pairs), but I know it would be pic overload if I posted them all! So I'm just going to pick my favorites. Oh, and on that note, the book is actually quite small, about 2 inches by 3 inches if I remember right.

The only thing is that I wish I could have got a higher quality paper! The texture on this was nice, but it was only on one side. It was just a piece of scrapbook paper.

I made the book by cutting each piece of paper I needed to the size of two actual pages in the book, stacked them, and folded them in half. So that the piece of paper on the bottom of the stack would become the first and last page in the book, with the creases in the paper aligning with the spine. Then I glued each piece to each other and took a needle and thread and sewed down the middle of the crease and bound it on the back. I wish I had taken pictures of the process! Then I just glued it to the piece of leather I had for the cover and viola! a little book was born.

The rest was just details, like actually drawing the pictures and coloring them with brush pens and edging the pages with gold paint. I also wanted to try to make the book look old so I just took some black ink and worked it into the leather slightly.

And here is a picture of everything I sent:

Sorry if I was wordy or posted too many pictures! I was just excited to share this, it was the first big craft project I had undertaken in a long time!

Oh, I also meant to say that I know she has it already, so I'm not spoiling anything!

i think kids love the idea that it was hand made, and that they could potentially do the same. The WoW book is very cool, nice to have something specifically tailored to a toon. Good job! Cheesy

Oh the book is exceptionally cute!
I love the textured scrapbook paper. I have a project where it really might work. Do you remember the brand?

Thanks Myrdda! I think this has inspired me to go back to hand made gifts, I always used to then I got lazy when I started college! I used to make books a lot too, I need to look into different techniques though, mine was self taught and wouldn't work for anything with a lot of pages.

I just had to go dig up the scrap piece that had the sticker on it. Recollections is the brand, I got it from Michaels in their big paper aisle.

Thanks! I hadn't made a book in a long time, so I am really happy with how it came out. Those were also the first things I ever did with polymer clay, so I am really happy with them as well!
