I made a Disney/Pixar Cars cake of Radiator Springs for my son's 4th birthday.  I used four cake mixes and several different cake techniques.  My husband told me it's the best cake I've ever done.  I am still so in love with it.

The entire cake.  It is 3 9x13 cakes put side to side.  I used strawberry, butter pecan, and cinnamon flavors.  I frosted the entire thing with brown buttercream to look like dirt.  The shell border is red buttercream.

Tow Mater's Towing and Salvage yard.  I made the fence and sign with gumpaste.  The lettering is royal icing.

Top view of Tow Mater's to see the other elements better.  The tires are made out of black fondant.  The barrel is gray fondant.  The rocks are chocolate rock candy.  The dirt is sugar sprinkles.  Tow Mater is obviously one of my son's many Cars toys.

The Cozy Cone Motel.  The cones are made out of rice krispie treats covered with orange fondant.  The grass is green buttercream piped with a grass tip.  The sign is made from gumpaste.

This sign is one of my favorite parts.  I am particularly proud because I cut it out freehand (with no template) and did all the lettering and drawing freehand too.  The white letters are done with royal icing.  The red letters and black car drawing are done with edible food markers.

The middle of the cake.  The highway is made of black fondant with yellow fondant stripes.  The Route 66 sign is made from gumpaste decorated with an edible food marker.  The stop sign is a royal icing decoration I bought in a package on clearance attached to the lollipop stick with gumpaste.

Luigi's Casa Della Tires.  The building was made out of two layers of lemon cake.  It was covered in beige fondant and the roof was done with a terra cotta colored buttercream.  The windows are light blue fondant with royal frosting lines.  The sign is made out of gumpaste decorated with food markers.  I think I was able to capture the style of the Luigi's sign pretty well too.  The leaning tower of tires was made out of fondant.

Close-up of the leaning tower of tires.  The tires are attached together using royal frosting.  I put a skewer down the middle of the tower for added stability.

Flo's V8 Cafe.  Flo's was made with rice krispie treats covered in fondant.  I used folded ribbons of fondant for the air filter effect.  The sign was made of gumpaste and the letters done with royal frosting.

The Ethan sign made in the style of the Cars logo.  It was gumpaste decorated with royal frosting.

This cake took me many, many hours, but I think it was worth it.  Smiley

Oh my goodness! Flo's! The Tower of Tires! The cones! I'm almost afraid to show this to my son--what if he requests it?? (And this is just the kind of thing he'd remember until his birthday in 8 months!)

Excellent job! Hope everyone loved it!
