So I'm really not the best seamstress, but a couple of weeks ago I decided to try my hand at making a witches hat for a Harry Potter convention I was going to be at.
This is made with leftover home decorating fabrics that I recovered some chairs with, heavy interfacing and a little floral wire from the dollar store.
And like everything else I do, did I use a pattern from the store? Heck no! I made it up! I really should learn to use a real pattern one day lol.

My son makes the best model.

I really like the effect the upholstery fabric gives, it makes the hat look well used and loved.

Look twice, buy once. Nooooo
Look twice, decide I can make one instead.
If it's Nerdy, I'll make it.

Love it! The best patterns are the ones you make up..... of course I say that cause I hate using patterns. Wink

This is great (and you have a great model)! Obviously you didn't need a pattern! btw - LOVE that first picture of your son! He looks so thrilled with you!  Cheesy

This came out fantastic! If this wasn't a crafting site I would have assumed it was store bought. Great job!  Wink

This looks amazing!!! You could sell these no problem! Especially with such an adorable model. I can't believe you didn't use a pattern. It looks like something right out of the book! I just added to my "To do" to attempt making a hat.

Great hat. It's got so much character.

And a Harry Potter convention sounds like fun.
