Homespun needs your vote to help bring $50k to Indy's east side! :: vote for the new Pepsi Refresh grant proposal!

So, we've done it again! We are up for another Pepsi Refresh Everything grant and we need your help!

Last year, Neal & I (the creators of the INDIEana Handicraft Exchange), earned a $5k grant through Pepsi, which enabled us to get Homespun: Modern Handmade, a boutique selling contemporary handmade goods from over 120 different artists from around the country, up and running. Our original goal for Homespun was to have a retail, gallery and workshop space - all devoted to contemporary craft - in one, but the retail portion grew so quickly that our current space was filled before we were able to fit in the classroom and gallery portions. A local design firm has given us permission to hold workshops in their space currently, but we need to acquire a space of our own to be able to offer all we want to.

This year we have applied for a $50k grant, which will allow us to secure a second space in the Irvington neighborhood and equip it with sewing machines, small kilns, screenprinting stations, a photo studio, computers, and more, where we can teach classes like Intro to Knitting, Basic Garment Construction, Glass Fusing, Needle Felting, Bookbinding, Product Photography, Branding, Social Networking for Your Small Business, How to Make an Etsy Shop Work for You, etc. The space will be available for open studio, for community members to rent for special events, as well as for group meetings, and the classes will be hosted through Homespun and taught by local artists, experts and professionals.

We're not asking for your money, or even your hard work. All we need is two minutes of your time. Seriously, that's it.

If you voted for us last year you still have a Pepsi account. If you're new to this, simply register at www.RefreshEverything.com for an account (they just ask for your contact info and a valid email address and you can opt out of all email solicitations) and then link to our project here:

and click on the "VOTE for this idea" tab. Our project will be up for voting from now through May 31. You can cast 5 votes each and every day - 1 vote per idea - so after you vote for ours you can select four more to give your support to, like Neal's friend's project, which will help fund a boxing and mixed martial arts program for inner city kids and veterans in Indianapolis. You can check that one out here:

Please help us out when you can. We would sincerely appreciate your daily vote. Making the complete vision of Homespun finally materialize means a lot to us and to many of the artists whose work we sell in the store. The east side of Indy could also use an arts center like this, since we don't have anything of the kind right now.

Set an alarm on your phone, put a note on your iCal, write a post-it note and stick it to your computer screen....whatever it takes to help you remember to vote each day. It would mean the world to us if we could pull this off and bring $50k more to Indy's east side.

Thanks a bunch!
-Amanda & Neal

P.S.) Please pass on this info to anyone else you think would be interested in supporting us. We need all the votes we can get! Your husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, co-workers, crafty comrades, kind-hearted grannies...anyone! Repost on your Facebook page, blog, Twitter, etc.

P.P.S.) Also, make sure you are only voting for our project once a day from one email address. Setting up multiple email addresses for voting could get us disqualified, and they are being much more strict about enforcing this this year.

P.P.P.S.) If you are a Pepsi product drinker, you might really be able to help us out...Some bottle caps (yellow ones that say "power vote") and cases of cans (says "power vote" on the cardboard wrapper) have a "power vote" code that can be entered to give your selected project anywhere from 5-100 extra votes. Look for it on specially-marked "Refresh Everything" Pepsi products. It should be under the bottle cap or printed on the inside of your multi-pack. Save the code to enter on the website. Applies to Pepsi, Diet Pepsi or Pepsi Max. Code looks like this: 5VX593697.

Awesome! Thanks a bunch. Here's some more info on the "Power Votes" that are available on some Pepsi products:

I'm not asking you to go out and buy Pepsi products if you don't normally drink them, but for those of you who do imbibe the occasional, or routine, Pepsi Cola...

There are specially marked cases of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi Max out there now that have the words "Power Votes" on the corner of the packaging. (Also, there are 20 oz. bottles and 2 litres with yellow caps reading "Power Votes", but we have yet to find those anywhere). If you ARE making a Pepsi purchase over the next month, if you happen to see one of those cases, if you could pick that one up instead of a not-so-special case, we would be oh-so-grateful. On the inside of the cardboard there is a black box that reads "Visit refresheverything.com. Use code by 9/30/11." Underneath there is a 10-character alphanumeric code.

If you could use that code yourself if you are voting daily, you could boost our votes anywhere from 5-100. If you are not able to vote daily, if you could email ME the code, or drop off the cardboard piece at Homespun, that would be super amazingly awesome of you! Each person can use up to 10 Power Vote codes a day. (Sneaky, Pepsi, verrrry sneaky.)

If you do decide to email me the codes, you can send them to:

If you want to vote daily from now through May 31, or simply read more about our project proposal, check out this link:

If you want more detail about this crazy "Power Vote" thing, check out Neal's latest blog post:

Thanks again! We are determined to complete the final portion of Homespun and make our original vision a reality and your help will get us there! We appreciate every minute of your time.
