A birthday cake that I made for a very special girl. ^_^

It is primarily just a bunch of origami things (boxes, rose, star) that have been attached together with tape.
It also serves as being a box with separate compartments (the layers of the cake).

I also wrote up a poem to go along with it (matches and corresponds with various parts of the cake):
No matter whether we are near or far
Your light shines to me like the brightest star

My dear, you are my flower
For you, I'd be there at any hour

Sometimes it may seem that we are truly apart
But just remember we are together by heart

In this last compartment is your space
Free for whatever you wish to place
In this compartment may you keep and find
The rainbows, dreams, and magic of your mind

Just felt like sharing, and perhaps inspiring others. ^_^

I love, love, LOVE this! So going to use this idea! Could you provide a tutorial  Kiss

Thank you!
The poem both was inspired by and inspired some details of the cake's design.
Both changed a lot back and forth as inspiration flowed through me that one day, lol.

I'm glad that you like it so much!
Certainly, I'd love to see others' work resulting from this!
Ums, just give me a bit of time to try to compile some details together (the pieces were all just random ideas that came together, lol)

The rose ("candle holder") can be found here:
Here's instructions for the star:

The "candle" was merely a small sheet of paper which I rolled up very tightly (diagonally)

The boxes ("cake"), themselves, I had seen in a book once at the library, and memorized how to make them. I do not remember what the book was, and have been unsuccessful at finding the book or diagrams to make these specific boxes.
I can try to explain how to make them, they were not too hard. Cheesy
Ums, you can perhaps take a look at the other things for the time being, lol. Smiley

I'll try to provide a more structured explanation when I can. (I'll try to find and/or recall some technical details that I used to make that specific cake ^_^ the proportions could be helpful at least)

Yay! Thanks for the info. I'd appreciate any more too, but this gives me a place to start. Thank you!

You're welcome!  Grin
Well, I figure that I should mention that the entire cake was made with plain copy paper.  Smiley
Naturally, you can adapt the materials to try to get different effects or if it's easier for you. I just go with what I know and what I have, so plain paper for me, lol.

Let's see... The star was made from a strip of paper... (1/16 of it's width, so (1/16 * 8.5" = 0.53125")-- I just kept folding it into halves)
(so the strip of paper that I used was  0.53125" x 11")
of course, that's just because I fold and tear the paper by hand without tools and thus, it's easy for me to make this size uniformly every time. (so, also makes 16 stars per sheet of paper)
could probably shorten the length quite a bit, since they do come out a bit thick... so they are a little harder to pinch, but they are also rather strong. (adapt as you'd like Smiley )

The rose, definitely practice it somewhat first with larger squares... since I ended up making a rather small one (as you can see, the size of the star is rather small, and the rose is kinda the same size...)

Still no luck finding that box design, so I'll probably have to write something up myself, lol.
Never tried teaching anyone who was not in person, so bear with me here, lol.  Cheesy

What a good idea! My sister's wedding is coming up, I think I will fold her a wedding cake version! Thanks for the idea and sharing.

My Wifey is in Love with this idea, and is now demanding that all of her gifts are presented in this manner. What a great idea! Now lets see if I can pull it off.

Very cute, and not quite as messy as a real cake Cheesy

There are several crafts you can do with paper shredder shreds, use it to stuff your creations or for paper dolls...
