What I did was super sucky, but also not my fault.

I have, even as a child, always been a lover of all things gnome.  Hence the name, right? If only it were raining gnomedrops.  I was luckily enough to breed into a family that felt the same. My mother in law collects them, and even has many handed down from her grandma.  They might not be collectors items to some people, but we adore them.  Gnome-loving is a lot like cat-loving. Not every one gets it.

Luckily, my mother in law does, and there for her son, my husband, understands my strange desire to gnome everything, including our darling two year old child, who in turn, also loves gnomes.   She wears this costume all the time, even now, and actually wore it to meet Santa, and will be wearing it when we go to the Gnomeo And Juliet movie in theaters. I She's the perfect little gnome.  I actually managed to make this costume with a materials on hand, which says a lot about my hoarding habits.

The skirt is more or less a two layered (both lined) circle skirt that I cut into a square instead.  Then I added a thick waist band made out of heavy wool felt (it's what I had on hand).  The leiderhosen are made of the same material, and embroidered with tiny flowers.  They button right into the waist of the skirt.  You can kind of see the layers in these pictures, top layer is polka-dotted, and the bottom is a soft green.  I wanted to get some better pic's but she's two (a very tall two, I know) and more or less permanently mobile.

She's like a freaking big-foot. Impossible to capture on film.

The hat is just more felt I had, and it actually fit her head perfectly, for which I was lucky.  It stayed on through some mild wind and didn't bug her to much.  I filled it lightly with poly-fill to keep it upright.

This picture is just for funzies.  I edited a beared on her.  She looks exactly like her grandpa with it.  He's kind of gnome like too.

C and C welcomed!

Sorry for being such a flake. Sad

I absolutely love your post. After reading it i think you and i are a lot alike. Smiley It takes a special kind of person to love gnomes.  The costume and your daughter are adorable. Thanks for posting!
