And I mean store bought patterns OR patterns you've made yourself.

I never used to use any type of pattern, but then I started making my own and have been using them a lot more. I've noticed when it's stretchy material I don't use any pattern at all. Just the idea and then tailor it as I go to fit. But since I've had to start using non-stretchy materials I've been using more patterns.

So I was just curious about everybody else.

I am always making my own pattern by tailor or designer because I don't like same pattern which other also wear but I want something different so I make my own pattern from two or three pattern.

It depends on what I'm making. I'm a dress/skirt girl, so if I'm making something that fits the bodice, I'll use or draft a pattern, but if it's a skirt that's free at the hips, then I make it up as I go.

I don't use commercial patterns that often unless it's a style I absolutely must have, but that's mostly because of concerns with fit. I think when I learn how to alter patterns, I'll use them more often.

I tend to always use basic patterns as a start--I have a whole set of Vogue basics (a0line skirt, pencil skirt, trousers, shell top, etc) that I had laminated after I modified them to fit perfectly...I also have various shells I made from muslin that I keep on hangers for fussy fittings...

to be honest, I am using more and more commercial patterns because for 1.99 cents, it is not worth my time to start from scratch Wink especially if the fit is not the critical...

I am guessing that I have a little over 50 store bought patterns (a lot are still in the envelopes because I change my mind a lot!)...

I admire people who have the knack to just cut away!
