I don't DO Normal

In August my SIL announced that she was pregnant with her 2nd kiddo  Cheesy but they weren't finding out the gender of the baby Sad Gender neutral is so much harder and generally not as cute, but I had this adorable monkey fabric my mom had given me as part of her clearing out her craft room!

the quilt is not made from any pattern or directions, I did all the math (some of it wrong) and put it all together myself. I did get instruction on free-motion quilting from Leah Day's Freemotion quilting site here:http://www.daystyledesigns.com/
My free motion quilting is no where near that good, but I'm proud that I did the whole quilt!

I did finish the quilt back in November, then I had to hide it till now, tomorrow it goes to its new home (hopefully to be well loved) I also made a "baby brainy ball" to go with it from the scraps (after I bought the pattern I found the online free versions Undecided that's generally how it works)

Did I mention that my current nephew is already spoiled, and I see NO chance of the next one being any better!  Grin  Yeah I contribute to that, but only in the crafty way!

Included in the package with the quilt and ball is:
the dodecathingamabobble https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=371260.msg4367308#msg4367308
and the baby bear hat and mittens https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=372147.msg4379126#msg4379126

thanks for looking, hopefully I will one day score some pictures of the baby with some of my craftygoodness!
C&C always welcome!

That is a gorgeous quilt. Baby is lucky to have an aunt willing to sew him/her that.
That ball intrigues me. You said you found free online patterns. Good Fu abandoned me and all that shows are buy patterns.
Do you remember where you saw the free pattern?

Thanks in advance.

http://dailyskein.wordpress.com/2008/05/29/cuddly-balls/ this one is a bit different but pretty much looks the same in the end

https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=102581.0 the same idea as above, only on craftster

biggest difference between those two and the one I made is that mine used 2 different pattern pieces and these use only 1, probably easier to cut out  Wink

Pretty colors and cute monkey fabric!

Good job on the free-motion! I've been practicing but not quite brave enough to tackle a whole quilt yet. I like your blocky stitch pattern. I'm going to try this. Maybe I can keep in more controlled than the typical swirls, which seem to have a mind of their own on my machine!

Way to go!  I especially love the different quilting designs throughout the piece.  And the ball is awesome, too!  Thanks so much for sharing  Smiley
