My dad is currently on holiday in New Zealand was telling me about Opossum yarn.  I guess the fur is plucked and then spun along with merino wool into yarn.

Really, opossum yarn?  Sounds very different.  I wonder if its soft?  If your father brings you yarn from it you have to tell us about it.  Ive seen a book on making yarn with dog fur, but thats the oddest thing Ive heard of.  I would never use dog fur though, as hubby and I are like "What if it gets wet, you'll have that wet dog smell."  LOL

The opossums we have in the US have really soft fur. I would imagine it'd make a great yarn. Just wish you could shear them like sheep instead of pluck 'em.

Yep, this came up in a previous round. NZ possum yarn and fur is great stuff. NZ possum is a slightly different beastie from North American (click here to see the face of pure evil). They are protected in Aussie (from whence they come), but were introduced here and they, despite their cuteness, are an unmitigated environmental disaster. We HAVE to kill them (and it's a softie vegetarian saying this) to protect our birds, forests, and agriculture. So turning them into cute accessories is a very green thing to do. The fur is hollow, so it is incredibly warm and light. It's usually blended with merino or similar for length to get a good yarn.

If you put possum yarn on your wishlists, I'll see what I can do Wink Or you can PM me. Or you can buy it online.

Want to learn to crochet or knit?  I have a ton of extra crochet hooks & circular knitting needles.  Will throw in some pattern books and yarn for anyone interested in a swap.

I received from both Mimiw and Eveamlizya! Smiley

Eveamlizya sent me this beautiful artwork of my Izzy, it is beautiful and brought tears to my eyes. I love it and have it hanging in my memorial section in my room.

Mimiw sent three shirts for my son, Atticus. He loves them. Smiley Smiley There is a cute stenciled robot, appliqued dinosaur, and fish. They are adorable!

Thank you both very much! Cheesy
