I admit it. It's one of my many faults. But I really hate ribbing. After about four rounds I'm bored to tears! So this year, when I finally broke down and decided that this year I needed a winter hat, I dreaded the hated ribbing. Then I thought of this:

I don't know how well the pic turned out, but that is a cabled band that I worked flat, grafted the ends together, then picked up stitches along the side to make up the hat.

The hat pattern came from Knitty, though I can't for the life of me remember the name of the pattern. If it comes to me I will post it, Sorry!

And all together. Thank you to one of my wonderful DD's for being today's model. Sometimes it seems that that's the only reason I had you guys. And to do the dishes Grin

Excellent way to avoid ribbing! Smiley The cabled band looks very stylish!

Beautiful! I think this looks way better than ribbing. I like the two-color style. And I love cables. Hope you don't mind if I use this for inspiration?

This is such a good idea!  And makes for a beautiful hat, much better than ribbing.
I hate ribbing too, I'll have to try this next time.
