Cuban food is not spicy hot.
Chili peppers are not use in Cuban cuisine.
Cuban food is savory and flavorful because the base of most dishes is sofrito, a saut of onions, garlic, oregano, cumin and bay leaves with bell peppers.

        Picadillo a la Habanera (Ground beef Havana Style)

2 lbs ground beef
4 tbsp olive oil
1 large onions, chopped
  red pepper, chopped (or jar sweet red bell pepper)
8-10 cloves of garlic, pressed
1 tomato diced (or can tomatoes)
1 cans tomato sauce
1 or 2 bay leaves
dash of oregano
dash of ground cumin
cup Sherry or dry white wine
salt and pepper to taste
about a dozen pimento stuffed Spanish olives
2/3 cup raisins (optional)
1-cup water
1 tbsp capers (optional)
2 medium potatoes, peeled, diced and fried

Warm olive oil on medium heat and saut onion, pepper, and garlic until soft.

Add the tomato sauce, bay leaves, oregano and cumin
Add the ground beef, mix well in the sofrito.
Add the cooking wine, olives and raisins.

Salt and pepper to taste
Cover and let simmer for about 20- 25 minutes
Turn off heat.
Add the diced fried potatoes.

Serve with white rice

Just wanted to pop in to say that I have been loving your posts!

I grew up eating foods like this but never learned how to make them from the cooks!

I will definitely try this one!
