I've been commissioned to make shopping bags for my mums church.. they've got an eco-friendly vibe going on so the idea is that this is a fundraiser and it encourages enviromental friendliness..    Cheesy
The plan was to use the heavy duty calico in my local fabric shop, but i recently discovered the evils of non-organically grown cotton (see http://www.ptree.co.uk/oc_campaign.html) and now it seems really hypocritical to make the bags out of cotton that is almost certainly not organic  Undecided

So Ive been searching for suppliers of fair trade cotton, which are preferably based in the UK (im in Scotland) or who will ship to the UK, but ive not had any luck.
Can anyone help?

these are furniture and curtain fabrics, organic and hand loomed, shop is in scotland... http://www.cinnabarfabrics.com/acatalog/Fabrics.html

i had way better luck finding bed sheets that are organic than just plain fabric, so you might consider searching for those too.  also hemp should be an option?  try searching for wholesale too... sometimes their minimums are quite low.  also i found some pre-made totebags if you want to stencil or something instead of make the whole bag...
