(In preface, I find mustaches rather silly. But if they give the fellows a sense of pride and self-esteem, then more power to ‘em. And for those who don't know me, yes, I'm being facetious with all the sexism in these cards.)

I was looking through a website of public domain clip art someone scanned out of Dover Publications books, and started noticing how many 19th-century mustachioed men there were—and invariably, they were being adored by women (go see for yourself). It was uncanny how many of these old illustrations seemed to be mustache advertisements, and various captions immediately came to mind when seeing them.

I thought about how, over time and across the world, countless special interest groups, industry associations, government entities, etc. have launched propaganda campaigns to influence public opinion and further their causes. And it dawned on me that though there are many organized groups of mustache wearers and mustache fanciers in the world, they have not formed a united front from which they could more powerfully promote the mustache. To the best of my knowledge they have no propaganda to distribute, possibly because they think the mustache speaks for itself and doesn’t need a media campaign. That is where I come in.

Mustache-appreciating ladies and gentlemen, I present
The International Federation for Mustache Advancement!
A distinguished brotherhood of mustache supporters who lobby on behalf of the mustache and promote the mustache image and lifestyle through art and media outlets. It is my gift to the world.  Cheesy
The mustache propaganda campaign begins here, on Craftster, in 2.5x3.5 inch format. Next, covering billboards across the continents! Here is the initial installment, with more still to come:

"Down Mexico way, they call me 'El Bigoton' - The Wearer of the Mustache. I wear it proudly (the name, too)."

A note on these ATCs: I don’t like to have much digitally-created content in my ATCs, so I did the writing by hand even though a typeface would look much classier, like an advertisement. I will likely do another set that’s entirely digital so they’ll look better reproduced, and I’ll post them when I get them done!

Each one involves tissue paper and pens/markers; most also used beeswax and paint.

And now, a few more! These used melted crayon pigment for the backgrounds

Does your household accumulate lots of dryer lint and empty toilet paper rolls? If you'll turn them into fire-starters for me, (stuff lots of lint inside the roll, fold edges, maybe add some candle wax), I'll happily send you something nice.

My favorites; "irresistibly sexy", "onion and liquor", "society ladies go wild" and "freaky freaky dance"

I'm going to share this on facebook!

Too cute, calluna!  Your sense of humor rocks and your ATC's have made an otherwise mundane Thursday morning more enjoyable!
