After seeing Katy Perry's music video for "California Gurls feat. Snoop Dogg" my first reaction was, "I have to have a chocolate chip cookie hat!!" But it became much more than that as time progressed.

Here is my final costume:

and here is my inspiration:

Plus a link to the music video:
(The "girl scouts" enter around 1:40)

Almost every part of my costume was hand-made using these three ingredients that I found at a local thrift store:
(as well as a brown piece of felt, some knee-hi socks from Target, some fabric paint and glitter glue.)

The only thing I didn't alter was the white button-up. I wanted to keep it normal because I finally found one that fit! Cheesy

I used the tan T-shirt, felt and pink glitter glue to create the cookie beret. I cut out pieces using a plate and bowl as a template. Then I finished it off using the collar of the shirt. I then glued and pinched squares of felt and cut them into circles to make the chocolate chips.

The skirt and sash were made from the long brown skirt shown in picture above. I cut most of the fabric from the bottom off, then sewed pleated fabric to the remaining skirt base.

(pic included to prove that I did in fact sew the skirt myself, lol)

I hand-painted the candy badges to the sash (which I made from skirt remnants) then bedazzled it with glitter glue and rhinestones.

The "badges" include: cotton candy, a gummy bear, cupcake, conversation heart that says "sweet stuff", a ring pop, pink donut, ice cream, cherries (I know they're not candy, but they're cute, right?), and a lollipop.

Here are some additional shots of my costume:

Thank you so much for looking!!!

This was the first costume I've ever made entirely by myself, and I'm very happy with it!

I post things like this in my blog too!

Fantastic! You did all the little details too! Love that sash. And ya, who wouldn't want a chocolate chip cookie hat?

Ya just can't stop a crafty girl!
