I love to make this appetizer because everyone loves it. It's a spicy, cheesy delicious bite! It may seem like a lot of steps but it's easy (and totally worth it) to make!

Jalapeno Poppers Recipe

8 jalapeno peppers
Panko crumbs/Japanese bread crumbs (or use regular dry bread crumbs)
Oil for frying

4 ounces cream cheese
1/2 cup shredded cheddar jack cheese
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
pinch of salt

Tempura Batter:
1 egg
1 cup COLD water
1 cup all purpose flour

1. Slice jalapenos in half lengthwise and remove stem and seeds (use gloves!!)
2. Mix filling ingredients together.
3. Fill jalapeno halves with filling.
4. Prepare tempura batter by mixing the egg with cold water, then whisking in the flour.
5. Dip filled jalapenos in tempura batter then dip/roll in breadcrumbs, immediately drop into hot oil.
6. Remove when golden brown and let cool on paper towels/wire rack.
7. Enjoy warm!

(use up extra tempura batter with other veggies like eggplant, sweet potato, peppers, etc)

Wow, those look so good! Your tempura looks really yummy, I've never tried it at home but always have to get tempura veggies when I go for sushi!

Oh yum.

This reminds me of a dish I used to get at the Korean restaurant when I lived in middle-of-nowhere China. In English it was called 'Explodes the vegetable' - which made me giggle.

That said, I would have killed for cheese. This just sounds like the best dish ever. Screw heart disease! Bring it on!

schnerby, "explodes the vegetable" is so funny! that's probably what poppers translated into.  Roll Eyes

It was translated Korean-Chinese-English, so who knows what it started as! I don't speak Korean, but the Chinese was right and they got a little creative on the English.

Regardless, I want to eat these now! I can feel my arteries hardening and I don't care!

Yum! We love jalapeno poppers! My brother makes them with all kinds of other peppers, too, then fills them with bacon and cheese before baking. Always a party favorite!
