I've made a few of these before for craft shows, but decided that they would make great holiday gifts - so this challenge was a great excuse to get my tush in gear!

This first one is what I'm officially entering---I love these glass Evian bottles!  I saw them last year at Marshalls and bought a bunch of them just for this purpose!

With the lights off:

Close up of the "topper" (nothing more than some crystal beads from Michaels and a napkin holder from Kohls!)

Close up of the pretty lacy design printed on the bottle

Even though this one is made out of a water bottle, I usually make them out of wine bottles.  My dad drills a hole in the back with a diamond cutter, then I use my crochet hook to "stuff" a string of 20 lights in the hole.  After it is in, I use silicone to "plug" up the hole and give it a neater, finished look.
I decorate them with just about anything---silk flowers, beaded picks, ribbons, tulle, shells, etc

Even starfish and raffia! (I live at the Jersey Shore---beach themed housewares are huge around here!)

Oddly enough--I don't drink much, so that's where the true recycling comes in---people save me bottles with interesting lables, and I've even gotten some from local resturants.

Thanks for looking!

wow these are great!  Smiley - that evian bottle is amazing, looks so pretty with the lights in! do you have any more pics of bottle lights you've done?

I don't know what I don't know. But I want to know.

I really like those bottles!  Great creativity to use a napkin ring...I wouldn't have never known that's what that was until you said something.  Good job!

SO pretty!!  What a great way to recycle bottles!  We always rinse & save our wine bottles for...something.  This just might be it!

Thanks everyone!!

Lets see if I can answer all the questions:

1- I do have other bottles I made---I'll see if I can take some more pictures.  Each one comes out so different!  I try to look at the bottles label and go with that in terms of design and coloring.

2-The napkin ring was a "happy accident".  It was just sitting on the counter (my mom bought it because it was "cute" and she just plopped it on the bottle and it worked!  We've used gift wrapping "charms" that work the same way.

3- I had been saving wine bottles for "something" too!  I have a kiln that I'd like to melt them in, but they're just a tad to big to fit in my kiln.  Glad I didn't throw them away!  Some wine bottle lables are just too pretty!

4-The Evian bottle already had that design on it--but I did consider etching and glass painting on some bottles.  Maybe the ones with the not-so-pretty lables.  I'm very into etching right now!  (Hmmm....could have entered an "etched" project for this contest too!)

Thanks again for the kind comments!
