I definitely use page protectors, if I thought about all of the hands that have touched my pages, what a mess that would be on my paper!  My first album was top loading and I sort of regret that just because you can't have as many pages and they tend to slide out from the top...plus the paper needs to be thick so the page won't be bent from turning it...

I'm just a big fan of the strap and hinge albums because I can cut the center out of my background paper and not worry that I need to stick another sheet of paper in between.  The pages don't slide around and I can add a LOT more pages (including expand a pages and different sized ones!).  Smiley
