Ok..... I am petrified to start....... I have never done any embroidery.....think I know what I want to do.... where to begin....... ok I need to draw it out....... step 1....

Hey, I'm a total noob too, don't be scared! I've got backstitch down pat, but I'm doing my hoop in predominantly split stitch, which I have never attempted before now. Hey, if I can do it, anyone can, so I'm sure you'll be fine!

For the n00bs: even though there's a lot of fancy, cool stitches out there... I've been finding most people who embroider end up using a lot of standard ones. Myself, I use primarily split stitch, back stitch, and satin stitch. Mind, I wouldn't call myself an expert or anything, but I tried for a while to see just how many stitches I could use... I still learn all the fancy ones, but in my actual embroider, I use mostly those three. Cheesy

So far I can do backstitch and french knots and Im thinking that satin stitch is just like longstitch? Ill get there, even if I have to make up my own stitches  Cheesy everyone has to start somewhere.

Itching to start my hoop but I have other swaps to finish, housework to start and the remains of yardwork. How is it that "real life" can interrupt my craft time but not the other way around?

I learned my satin stitch from Sublime Stitching: http://www.sublimestitching.com/satinstitch.html

It kind of is long stitch, but packed all close together. Cheesy

I brought a hoop after the size discussion here. It is 12,5cm and I didn't realize before just how small that is!

I use back stitch almost exclusively. I use split stitch too, but I've been doing embroidery for a year and have to look most of the other stitches up if I want something different (in here. This book is amazing!)

I really, really need to learn the french knot.

I'm pretty sure the way I do french knots is "wrong"
