I learned how to sew when I was about 9, but I have recently taken it up again. So here is a top I made by cutting the fabric the right size using another top I had, and designing it to my liking. The skirt is some old Calvin Klein jeans I had that the "inseam" was starting to wear thin and tear (they're 3 1/2 years old) and I saw the reconstructed jeans idea on craftster, so they were going to be an experiment, but I love my skirt. It's really tattered, so I mostly wear it for lounging around the house, and for crafting in!

anyway, enough of the rambling, here's the top and front of the skirt:

and here's the back:

Wow!  Very nice!  From what I can see in the pic the skirt's okay to wear out in public...it doesn't look THAT tattered.

Good job!  I'm jealous of your skills! Smiley

Thats really cool! How did you make the skirt? As in, what did you cut out of the jeans?

This may not be your style but you could embrace the tattered look. take it outside and rub forcefully on the pavement to make it a bit more torn up. Seams can always be reenforced later and all that. Anywhere that is too thin can always have fabric patched undereneath so it pokes through. Or patched over the top in cute shapes like hearts. Wear it with something simple like flipflops and a white or light blue wife-beater style tank top.
But I agree, it doesn't look real tattered at all. It looks casual but not at all junky.

I had to cut the inseam down the middle, and layed the crotch seam so it was flat, and topstiched it- then I used the bottom of the leg to fill in the triangles in the middle.

I am now thinking about decorating it with patches or rhinestones.

Its a cute outfit, dare to wear it in public...the skirt is so lovely on you.  I can't for the life of me do a basic jeans to skirt recon...no matter how many tutorials I use, I always mess up on the crotch part so power to you lol  Grin
