While you're waiting for more hoop awesomeness to show-up in the gallery, why don't you kill some time by signing-up for ROUND 2?!?!

Troublet I am sooo happy you like the koi!  Cheesy

when I got your name I stalked you before I got the questionaire and found out that your Buddhist and like Japanese art. so I chose the Koi and planned all the colors and everything! lol

THEN I got your questionaire and you said you don't like pink (which is the color I chose for the lotus because pink lotus are associated with the holy Buddha!...I did actually keep that color! lol ) then you said your not big on yellows and oranges and I was like DOH!  Shocked koi-yellow and orange! LOL but lucky for me Troublet is an awesome partner and sent me a dmc chart and told me which yellows and oranges she likes Wink so all was not lost  Grin

The stitching is diffrent for almost every section lotus are backstitched, water is split stitched, the little bubbles are satin stitches, the fins and head are stem stitched and the scales are a NEW  Shocked stitched I learned called Jacobean Couching (think I spelled that right)

took me the whole month we had to stitch it up the way I wanted! I re-did the eyes a few times cuz he looked cross-eyed or angry! lol

anyhow I am so flattered that you all like it  Cheesy I'm extra super happy that you like it Troublet!!  Grin

....going to go fill out my questionarie for the next round NOW~...

That koi is really pretty.  Im totally going to make myself a koi hoop now.   Cheesy

I would if I had the skill!  As it is, I'll just wist it and try to make friends with thenorm02 Wink  The colors are wonderful, and I love the trellis stitching!

The blue lady is really pretty too- I need to experiment more with fill stitching Smiley  Also, did you freehand it, Songs4Drowning?

I used white colored pencil to draw a guide for the girl on the fabric, and then freehanded everything. The hair is actually chains of lazy daisies. I thought it looked like braids, and I mixed up thicknesses and sizes of different braids. I had a lot of fun doing the hair! I used Prismacolor colored pencils for the tinting, and I was a bit worried about how the peach hues would work out on the Alice fabric, but I am sooo relieved and happy you love it, Bexie!

I bought the alice fabric off of ebay, but I know you can get it from etsy, too. Wink There are several different colorways with those silhouettes, and if I could afford it, I'd make a quilt with them! I love it so much and it deserved to be loved too, instead of sitting in my fabric stash in the closet!

If there was ever an award for the best Swap Gallery I know this one would win.  I hadn't checked the site for a few days and am just amazed at the additions.  Wow!

I received my hoop from jemimah today, and it is absolutely gorgeous!

I requested an international partner (I have dreams of a house full of handmade crafts from around the world), and asked for something inspired by her country/culture. She wrote that this hoop is inspired by New Zealand, Maori art, the colors of the sea and bush (blue and green are my favorite colors), and greenstone/jade carving. The shapes come from the fern frond, which is said to represent new life and growth, and the hammerhead, said to represent strength. It's done in couching and coral stitch, neither of which I've tried before. The tinting is even prettier in person.

Thank you so much jemimah!
