my youngest turned 8 this weekend. he originally wanted a Goddard bday cake (Jimmy Neutron) but last minute wanted something that had Darth Vader in it. I chose the Death Star.
the cake itself is a store bought cake that I covered in fondant. the death star is made out of rice krispy treat then covered in fondant. more time would have been best as I did this the night before his party, so not tons of details on the death star, but Asher was thrilled. said it was his best cake ever. that's all that really matters.
thanks for looking!

That turned out so great! And the rice crispy treat was genius!
I would have never thought of covering it with fondant.
What a lucky kid!
What did you use for the....i'm guessing.....star trail?

That is so cool!  My younger brother and my older sister love Star Wars! My bother was came into the room when I was looking at this and he looked over my shoulder at the screen (a habit of his that annoys me so much! Tongue) a said "Wow, the Death Star!  Make that for me!"

thanks for the looks & comments!

rideit78 - I used silver nonpareils (little hard candy balls) for the star trails. the black fondant cracked badly so tried to cover that with the candy. thanks regarding the rice cereal. that would come from all food network challenges I've watched over the years  Grin. I would recommend that if you try it for sculpture to make it hollow. it was super heavy and since I didn't use a dowel for support, it started collapsing the cake  Tongue

The tastiest death machine ever! The overall effect is awesome, you shouldn't worry about not having lots of little details.
