I realized I had a billion pairs of jeans from my skinny days but couldn't bear to give away the hundreds of dollars worth of clothes so I made myself a patchwork quilt to put across the back of my futon.

I used a sewing machine to sew red circles onto the squares of denim before I sewed the squares together and I used an old woolen blanket as the filling between the 2 layers.

Wow, that looks really good! Nice idea to add the embroidery - spices things up a lot. I love the cushions with the circles, too!  Cheesy

THATS AWESOME! It seems like one of those simply obvious things, that you wouldnt realize until someone else puts the idea out there. Hmmm....if only I had a sewing machine.... I know I know, blasphemy.

I really like those circle pillows as well.  Did you make them?

No I didn't make the pillows. I wish I did though. They're made by a lady in Toronto called Saskia Wassing-Shepherd, I think Saskia Designs is her company name. We sell them at the store I work at.

i agree, the embroidery is an awesome touch.  And I really like the idea of using an old blanket for quilt batting.

i am so waiting to do this myself! between my hubby and I, 12 years of marriage and grad school days we have enuf jeans to make 3 full size quilts..maybe more!

i like the idea of embrodery on the squares. hmmm....may have to try this. i know a woman who embroidered ribbon flowers on black velour squares..made a gorgeos quilt.

did you have problems with the seams? like bunching and stuff?

No I didn't have any trouble with bunchiing or anything. Some of the embroidered circles were on stretch jeans so the circles bulged out a little bit where it stretched but this didn't really look too bad.

looks great!  i made one of these a few years ago (i'll post a photo when i get home), and it's so cute! the only problem for me was sewing over the thick denim seams. i used the pockets from the jeans in the areas where you have your red circles.

my bunny rabbits liked to nibble it here and there, and i'm thinking i could embroider patches over their destruction. i like the circles idea!  Cheesy
