For several months now I've been asked by my fiancé (and amigurumi felter) Beau to make a couple of our favorite Pokemon: Umbreon and Espeon.  But without a pattern those projects got pushed to the back of the queue in favor of others.

Recently, another crocheter whose patterns are very good, and whom I've made amigurumis from before, posted her own pattern for Umbreon.  A week later we had our own Umbreon and were pretty pleased.  That is until I suggested to Beau that it might be possible for me to alter her pattern for Umbreon a little to make Espeon.  Since Espeon is his favorite Pokemon, he immediately jumped on board for that idea and I'm pleased to say I think Espeon turned out very well.  His ears, whiskers, and tail are all my own design, while the body is the same as Umbreon's.  We finished felting it earlier today and even tried to make it look more authentic by making the jewel on its forehead out of a dab of hot glue which we then painted to match Espeon's.

To help make the tail more posable and like Umbreon's from pictures we're going to put a thin wire inside it.  Beau is very happy with it and hopefully Wolfdreamer (the other crocheter) will be proud of the alterations as well.

Body, Legs, Head
After looking around online for an Espeon pattern, I came across Wolfdreamers’ Umbreon she created.  I realized that with a few adjustments to her pattern I could make Espeon.  I give her full credit for the body, and after asking permission from her, I am linking to her blog so that you can make the body part to go with the rest.

Ears (make2)
Round 1: Sc 4 in magic ring (4)
Round 2: Sc in each sc(4)
Round 3: sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc (6)
Round 4: *sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc* around (9)
Round 5-6: *Sc in each sc* around (9)
Round 7: 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 4 sc, (10)
Round 8-9: *sc in each sc* around (10)
Round 10: 2 sc in first sc, 8 sc, 2sc in last sc (12)
Round 11-12: *sc in each sc* around (12)
Round 13: 2 sc in first sc, 10 sc, 2 sc in last sc (14)
Round 14: *sc in each sc* around (14)
Fasten off.

Whiskers (I guess that is what they are called, Make 2)
Round 1: 3 sc in magic ring (3)
Round 2: *sc in each sc* around (3)
Round 3: *2 sc in each sc* around (6)
Round 4-8: sc in each sc* around (6)
Fasten off.

Small Whisker (Make 2)
Round 1: sc 4 in magic ring (4)
Round 2: * sc in each sc* around (4)
Fasten off.

Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
Round 2-32: *sc in each sc* around (6)
Fasten off.

To create added piece to make the Y
Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
Round 2-10: *sc in each sc* around (6)
Fasten off.

Attach legs and head to body using yarn or string that is close to the color.
Sew ears on head making sure that they lean so they get the angle Espeons ears have.
Whisker: Attach the small whisker to the larger whisker about round 5 or 6.  Sew whiskers underneath ears
Tail:  Attach small part of the tail to the larger around round 11 (it may vary, just make sure that it creates a nice even Y when done)
Create the face and ears with felt (we just hot glue it, but it can be sewn on with thread that is the same color)
The red spot on his forehead is created by making a dollop of hot glue on a piece of paper and painting it red.  It could also be crocheted in a magic ring with 3 or 4 sc, around.

Espeon and Pokemon are copyright of Nintendo.

Wow, he's a cutie! Great job on modifying the pattern!

Thanks, I'm glad you like it, it isn't too hard to change a pattern a little but its really difficult for me to write a whole one by myself.

I'm so making this! I saw wolfdreamers umbreon pattern but like your husband I like espeon better but wasn't sure how to make the whisker parts, but I guess you did it all for me so thank you!

That came out *AWESOME*!  Cheesy

I knew that once I had done Eevee and Umbreon  (the two basic body designs of all the eeveelutions)  people would be able to mix and match and make their own favorites.

Man I love the creativity crocheters have,  it's downright incredible Cheesy

*EDIT*  I forgot to say how much I REALLY love the eyes and the jewel!   I'm always struggling with those kinds of features on my dolls  (faces are the bane of my existence)  and yours are just fantastic.  I could really stand to improve at my felting/face making skills  LOL - but y'all nailed it!

I'm so glad you guys like it, and I'm glad I give the duties of felting off to Beau because I'd be worried I would mess it up, and its hard work.
