My partner wanted to do something special for our joint b-day with a friend so we planned a Craftcorner Deathmatch theme fundraiser for the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop http://www.chaw.org .

The Arts Workshop is definitely looking for some more great ideas about how to work with the crafting community.  We have classes in mosaic, knitting, quilting, and glass along with all the painting, ceramics, photo and music classes.  Have a bright idea for a class?  We have 40 teaching artists and may be able to put a class or workshop together!    Email me if you have ideas: j AT chaw.org

So for this event . . .

Local actors played Amber and Jason and were hilarious!  We started with a round of 16 doing birthday cards and the panel of judges (all of us have birthdays close to one another) chose 8 to continue.

Round 2 was teams of 2 decoupaging plates with a "SCANDAL" theme.  The winning team competed against one another in Round 3, the scrapbook round where each had to make a page.

The final round, against our craftiest friend, the Craft Lady of Steel, was cake decorating-- so we could end with birthday cake.  Each had two layers of cake, icing, frosting, strawberries, colored sprinkles, etc.   People had a total blast.

We also had a soundtrack that helped move things along:

(The Host Enters) Get Ready For This   2 Unlimited

Round 1
(cards) Die Another Day   Madonna
(cards) Mama Said Knock You Out    LL Cool J
(cards) Please Mr. Postman   The Marvelettes

Round 1.5 (we skipped this one due to time)
(mobiles) Satellite   Dave Matthews Band
(mobiles) Round and Round   Ratt

Round 2
(decoupage) Stuck on You   Lionel Richie
(decoupage) Born to Hand Jive   Sha-Na-Na
(decoupage) Punk Rock Girl   Dead Milkmen

Round 3
(Scrapbooking) Always Something There to Remind Me   Naked Eye
(Scrapbooking) Always On My Mind   Pet Shop Boys
(Scrapbooking) Stayin' Alive   Bee Gees

March of the Craft Lady of Steel (New World Order)   Ministry
(The Finals: Cake Decorating) Cake   The B-52's
(The Finals: Cake Decorating) Strawbuhbuhbuhberry (Theme Song)   Strawberry Shortcake
(The Finals: Cake Decorating) She's Crafty  Beastie Boys

I can send you pics if you want to see!  In the meantime, check out the Arts Workshop at http://www.chaw.org.  We are a nonprofit multi-arts center just South of Eastern Market.

That is HILARIOUS I wish I was there. The soundtrack alone is fantastic. Smiley
